Strategic Plan

Township of Selwyn - Corporate Strategic Plan Update

The Township of Selwyn embarked upon an update of its Corporate Strategic Plan, last prepared in 2012. The firm of Monteith Brown Planning Consultants (MBPC) was engaged to assist with the consultation component of the update and to assist the Township in reconfirming its Vision and Mission Statements, Values, Goals and other over-arching elements of the Strategic Plan.

Todd Brown and Anand Desai of MBPC conducted a Workshop with Township Council and Senior Staff on September 22, 2017. The discussion focused on the current situation (strengths, weaknesses, key trends and opportunities); key issues (top issues facing the Township, what needs to stop happening and what needs to start happening); a prioritization exercise; review of the existing 2012 Strategic Plan; and a strategic visioning exercise.

A summary of the results of this discussion are noted below along with a preliminary list of initiatives that can be undertaken for the next Strategic Planning period.

Ward Boundaries

In December of 2012, the Township commenced preliminary discussions regarding the possible expansion of the Lakefield electoral ward to include the Lakefield South Secondary Planning area. Since then, the Township has reviewed the possibility of pursuing this endeavour however, with upcoming changes to policing services in the Lakefield Ward and the unknown tax impact on existing properties that currently reside in the Smith Ward the Township has deferred this matter to the next term of Council (2014-2018). At that time, final policing arrangements will be in place and consultation will be more meaningful based on known impacts.
