An Important Message from Peterborough County-City Paramedics:  Is Your Urgency an Emergency?

The Township of Selwyn is taking actions to help protect the health of our community.

  • Effective Tuesday, March 17th, all municipal recreational facilities (Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, Ennismore Community Centre, Bridgenorth Community Hall and Marshland Centre) and all Selwyn Public Library branches (Bridgenorth, Ennismore and Lakefield) will be CLOSED until further notice.
  • Effective Thursday, March 19th, Selwyn Township will NOT be accepting new planning applications, incl. Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plan applications or Minor Variance applications.
  • Effective Thursday, March 19th, brush will NOT be accepted at the Smith Landfill, as it is creating a high volume of unnecessary traffic and contact at the landfill. There is still curbside garbage and recycling collection, so there is no need to come to the Landfill.
  • Effective Friday, March 20th, cash payments will not be accepted at the Smith Landfill.  Payments can be made by Debit card only.
  • Effective Monday, March 23rd, the Township Municipal Office will remain closed to the public and will be operating with a reduced number of staff members.   Emails can be sent to info@selwyntownship.ca.  Emails and voicemails will be checked as soon as possible and will be returned in a priority sequence. Customers can pay their taxes through various on-line methods. Taxes and other payments can also be dropped off in our drop-box at the Selwyn Municipal Office (1310 Centre Line, Selwyn). For more information on various tax payments methods, visit: http://www.selwyntownship.ca/en/townshiphall/resources/Finance/Taxation/EASE-information-pamphlet-2017.pdf
  • Effective March 25, 2020 the prescribed building inspections will resume on unoccupied buildings (new construction). In addition, we will accept permit applications electronically.

The health and safety of our residents, customers and staff remains a key priority in addition to our goal of doing what we can to support the economy. The Premier announced yesterday a list of essential services, which includes construction. In response, we have resumed the provision of inspection services subject to the following conditions:

    • Inspection request timelines continue to apply (2 working days notice).
    • Requests for inspections must be made via email to building@selwyntownship.ca. Please include the following information in your email:
      • Requested Inspection Date

      • Address
      • Your contact phone number
      • Permit Number
      • Type of Inspection
      • Am or PM
    • As noted above, inspections will only be conducted on unoccupied buildings. The structure is to be vacant while the inspection takes place. An inspection will not be conducted while the building is occupied.
    • Occupancy inspections will only be completed prior to the structure being occupied again, subject to it being vacant.
    • All documentation which is required to conduct the inspection (ie. sealed truss drawings for framing, amended plans if changes have been made etc.) must be provided electronically so that copies can be made and taken with the inspector. Inspectors will not review paperwork left on site.

Applications for permits can be accepted electronically. Large scale drawing submissions can be placed in our File Submission software program. Contact Robert Lamarre at rlamarre@selwyntownship.ca to set up your permit submission.

It is too early to advise on the duration of the office closure. It is important to be aware that for the duration of the closure, inspectors and support staff will be working from home. There are a number of permit applications in the queue and the inspectors are reviewing the plans from home and will communicate with applicants via email.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact Robert Lamarre, Manager of Building and Planning at rlamarre@selwyntownship.ca.
