2. Federation of Canadian Municipalities – Universal Broadband

Recommendation;

That the correspondence from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) regarding universal broadband be received for information; and that the Township of Selwyn supports the advocacy of FCM that urges the Federal Government to adopt a national broadband strategy and make the necessary investments of $400 million over the next ten years to allow for the expansion of reliable, affordable and accessible universal broadband and that a copy of this Resolution be provided to MP Monsef.

(b) Peterborough Police Services Board – Correspondence – Delegation of Authority Request – Licence, Regulate and Govern Transportation Network Companies (TNC’s)/Ride Sharing Companies.

Recommendation:

Whereas the Township of Selwyn has contracted with the Peterborough Police Service to provide policing services to the Lakefield Ward; and

Whereas the Township of Selwyn has delegated the authority to licence, regulate and govern taxi and limousine industries, through By-law 2014-077, in Lakefield for public safety; and

Whereas transportation network companies, also known as ride sharing companies, are a growing business and as such the Peterborough Police Service plans to enact a By-law to regulate this industry and wishes to regulate these companies operating in the Lakefield Ward on behalf the Township;

Now therefore that By-law 2019 – 015 be brought forward delegating the authority to the Peterborough Police Service to licence, regulate and govern taxi, limousine and transportation network companies (ride sharing companies) within the Lakefield Ward and that By-law 2014-077 be repealed in its entirety.
