Correspondence for Direction:

That the following items of correspondence be received for information and that staff proceed with the recommended direction therein:

1. Association of Municipalities of Ontario - Comments on Draft Fire Regulations


That the correspondence from AMO providing comments on the draft regulations to the Fire Protection and Prevention Act related to fire fighter certification, community risk assessments and public reporting be received for information; and that the Township of Selwyn advise the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services that it supports the position of AMO related to the draft regulations, more specifically that the proposed Public Reports regulation not go forward at this time and the following key amendments or provincial commitments, prior to the proposed Firefighter Certification and the Community Risk Assessment regulations, be approved:

Provincial commitment to fund new firefighter certification costs so that it is not an unfunded mandate for municipal governments;

The Province provide, in legislation, liability indemnification for all municipal governments who certify their firefighters to the standards in the Firefighter Certification regulation and that this is done at least 12 months before this regulation comes into force;

The proposed Firefighter Certification regulation does not come into force any earlier than January 1, 2020;

Technical amendments to the draft Firefighter Certification Community Risk Assessment as per Appendix A attached to the March 7, 2018 AMO correspondence as well as those provided in the OAFC submission;

The draft Public Reports regulation be held and not approved until Ontario’s Standard Incident Response (SIR) framework, system improvements, and implementation strategies are discussed and consensus is achieved; and

Medical responses are not included in any future reporting requirements for municipal funded fire services.

2. Community Care, Lakefield - Tag Days


That the correspondence from Community Care regarding their annual tag day fundraising be received for information; and that permission be granted to Community Care, to conduct tag days in the Township of Selwyn during their annual fundraising campaign taking place on June 22 and 23, 2018.

Request for Endorsement:

Resolution No. 07-18 – Reduction of Speed on 7th Line

Moved by Steve Connolly, Seconded by Sherry Senis

That the Smith-Ennismore Police Services Board recommend to Selwyn Township Council that the speed limit be reduced from 80 km/hr to 60 km/hr on the eastern end of the 7th Line commencing at the end of the 40 km/hr speed limit (just before Peacock Road) to where the road ends at the river.
