1.   Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen & Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan - VIA Rail High Frequency Rail Plan

That the items of correspondence from the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen and from the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan regarding VIA Rail's High-Frequency Rail (HFR) Plan be received for information; and

That the Township of Selwyn express its support to VIA Rail Canada for its proposal for dedicated tracks to support its High-Frequency rail service; and that the Township of Selwyn provide copies of its resolution of support to various Federal, Provincial and local officials to express its support of the VIA plan given the importance of a dedicated rail corridor between Toronto-Peterborough-Ottawa for both passengers and freight companies.

a)    Notice of Motion

Moved by Deputy Mayor Sherry Senis, Seconded by Councillor Anita Locke

Whereas the County of Peterborough has initiated an environmental assessment (EA) to study alternatives for the widening of Ward Street in the settlement area of Bridgenorth from Champlain to the James Gifford Causeway to provide additional capacity and improve traffic flow within the Ward Street corridor for the near to medium term horizon and;

Whereas any roadwork construction commenced to widen Ward Street would offer an opportunity to also lay pipe for a future water and sewer system for the portion of the widened road and;

Whereas this particular work of pipe being laid would be a township expense and not a County expense;

Therefore, be it resolved, that a cost estimate to add this to the EA of including the estimated cost of pipe being laid during the study design be obtained from Engage Engineering, and that this be brought back to Council to determine whether to proceed to have this included in the Study Design.
