Correspondence for Direction:

That the following items of correspondence be received for information and that staff proceed with the recommended direction therein:

1. Rural Internet Connectivity Needs – District of Parry Sound, Township of Douro Dummer and the Town of Fort Erie

Recommendation:

That the correspondence from the District of Parry Sound, Township of Douro Dummer and the Town of Fort Erie in support of the Township of Armour related to rural connectivity be received for information; and that the Township of Selwyn supports the endorsed resolutions passed by the District of Muskoka, Townships of Armour, Douro-Dummer and Fort Erie  regarding the need to make substantial investment in high-speed internet connectivity in the rural areas of Ontario; and further that this Resolution be forwarded to MP Maryam Monsef, Premier of Ontario Doug Ford, and MPP Dave Smith.

2. Rent Relief Advocacy - Town of Oakville – Economic Task Force and Town of Grimsby

Recommendation:

That the correspondence received from the Town of Oakville - Economic Task Force and the Town of Grimsby related to rent relief be received for information; and

That the Township of Selwyn forward correspondence to the Federal and Provincial governments advising of its support for the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance program and further request:

  1. that the program be expedited to ensure support for local business as soon as possible; and
  2. that there is a suspension on evictions of commercial tenants for a minimum of 6 months; and
  3. that tenants be permitted to make an application for the rent assistance if the property owner does not want to apply or is ineligible; and
  4. that property owners be permitted to make one application for all of their properties rather than individual applications; and
  5. that the 70% revenue decline threshold for tenants be lowered; and

That MP Maryam Monsef and MPP Dave Smith be copied on the correspondence.

(a)    Request for Endorsement – Consideration to Extend Various Timelines for Grants and Deadlines for Reporting

Proposed Resolution:

That the Mayor be authorized to send requests, on behalf of the Township of Selwyn, to the relevant Federal/Provincial/Agencies to seek extensions regarding legislated timelines related to reporting and/or to seek extensions for various grant funding programs, including, but not limited to:

  • Ministry of Transportation - Community Transportation  Grant
  • Ministry of Rural Affairs – RED Grant
  • Provincial Municipal Modernization Fund (Efficiency Grant)
  • Preparation of the Asset Management Plan
