Property Tax Bill

Annual taxes are calculated by multiplying the assessed value of your property by the Municipality's current tax rate. Interim Tax Bills are mailed at the end of January, and final Tax Bills are mailed at the end of June.

The tax rate is made up of a Township portion and a County portion (influenced by the respective budget requirements) and an Education portion which is set by the Province of Ontario .

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation determines the assessed value of each property.

Through sound financial management, Selwyn boasts the lowest municipal property tax rate in the County of Peterborough.

If you are moving, or have changed your mailing address, please contact us immediately.

Supplementary Tax Billings

Have you added value to your property with the addition/improvement of a structure? The current value assessment system takes into consideration additions/improvements made to property that has increased its overall value. The Township is prescribed by legislation to levy taxes on the value provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for the current year and 2 years prior - where applicable.

For example, if you build a garage in 2018 you could receive the tax bill for the additional value of the garage for 2018, 2019 and 2020 in 2020.

Before receiving a bill, you will receive notification of the change in value from MPAC.

If you are enrolled in a pre-authorized payment program, supplementary billings will not be withdrawn from your account. Other payment options include: online and telephone banking payments, cheque and post-dated cheque, cash and debit at the municipal office.
