$100,000 Investing in Canada Plan Funding to Retrofit the Selwyn Township Office!

The Township of Selwyn has received $100,000 through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada plan to support upgrades to improve the customer service entrance to the Selwyn Township Municipal Office.

The COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream, implemented in response to the pandemic, allows the Government of Canada to invest up to 80 percent of total eligible costs for projects in provinces. The Ontario government will invest 20 percent of the eligible costs for projects across the province.

The pandemic has brought to light the challenges that exist with the Municipal Office as it relates to adequate separation for customers to enter and exit the building. Through retrofitting the entrance, we will support adequate physical distancing, and ensure that accessibility is maintained, while also enhancing our ability to provide the highest level of customer service and reduce the possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the health and well-being of all Canadians. Now more than ever, we understand the need to support our municipalities so that they can maintain their assets in order to continue providing access to quality programming and essential services. That’s why the Government of Canada is investing $80,000 through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream to help renovate the Selwyn municipal office so that the township can continue to provide essential services in a COVID safe way. Canada’s infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds cleaner, more inclusive communities.” - The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Member of Parliament for Peterborough-Kawartha

The health and safety of our ratepayers, particularly during these uncertain times, is of the utmost importance. This funding will allow the Township to retrofit its Administrative Office to provide a safer, more reliable atmosphere while ensuring the highest level of customer service now and in the future.” - Andy Mitchell, Mayor of Selwyn Township.

The Government of Canada is investing $200 million in municipalities through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada plan. The Government of Ontario is contributing $50 million. This funding will support upgrades to improve and protect important municipal buildings, rehabilitate recreational and community infrastructure, and include improvements to local trail and pedestrian path systems.
