Permitting Goes Online in Selwyn Township!

Selwyn Township’s Building and Planning Department is modernizing their building permit process by introducing a new and more efficient approach to providing service to Selwyn residents.

The Cloudpermit e-permitting system will allow residents and builders to complete the entire permit process online and will help meet ongoing needs while protecting staff and customers with the onset of a “New Normal” for municipal service delivery.

Through the Building & Planning Service Review, which Council initiated in 2019, it was recommended that the Township establish an e-permitting system that would support the Building & Planning Department, as well as provide an enhanced experience for our residents. It was unexpected just how needed this system would be with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a community, now more than ever, we are looking for ways to conduct business online from the safety of our own homes. Cloudpermit is yet another step in the right direction,” said Mayor Andy Mitchell.

As of February 8th, residents and home builders will be able to apply for permits, pay for permits, submit drawings, book inspections and track their permits online, all from the comfort of their own home or office – resulting in faster, more efficient service without the need to visit the Municipal Office in person.

Residents or builders wishing to apply for a building permit can do so by visiting the Building & Planning Department webpage on the Township’s website or by visiting the Cloudpermit website.

The introduction of an e-permitting system came as a recommendation through Selwyn Township’s Building & Planning Department Services Review which took place in 2020. Other recommendations that came from this Review include the hiring of a Development Approvals Technician and a By-law Enforcement Officer who will provide additional support for the Department.
