Community Members Invited to Participate in New Peterborough County OPP Detachment Board

The Peterborough County OPP Detachment Board is seeking applications for Community Appointees as required under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. While previously, each municipality had its own Police Service Board (PSB), all have been amalgamated into a single OPP Detachment Board as of April 1, 2024.

The core purpose of this Board is to enhance OPP oversight and governance within Peterborough County. We serve as a vital link between the Ontario Provincial Police and the communities they serve.

Members of the Peterborough County OPP. Detachment Board are responsible for completing mandatory board training, oversight of the OPP. Detachment Commander’s local action plan, presenting an annual report to each Council, preparing rules and procedures, creating by-laws, local policies and board policies, and preparing board estimates/budget for board operations.

The Board is seeking three (3) community appointees residing in Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, Township of Asphodel-Norwood, Township of Douro-Dummer, Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, Township of North Kawartha, Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, Township of Selwyn (Smith and Ennismore Wards), or the Municipality of Trent Lakes.

As approved by the Board, Community Appointees will be paid a stipend of $100 per regular Board meeting and mileage at the CRA rate. The Board meets Quarterly in January, April, July, and October on the fourth Monday at 1:00pm at the Peterborough County Courthouse, 470 Water St., Peterborough.

The Term for Community Appointees are concurrent with the current Municipal term, which ends on November 14, 2026. At that time, applications will be solicited for Community Appointees to serve from 2027-2030.

Information Session: A public information session will be held on Friday, October 17th from 1-2pm at the Peterborough County OPP Detachment, 453 Lansdowne St E, Peterborough. All are welcome and no registration is required.
