Selwyn Fire Department Promotes Smoke Alarm Safety During Provincial Testing Day
The Selwyn Fire Department is proud to participate in Ontario’s Provincial Smoke Alarm Testing Day on Sunday, September 28, 2025. To help raise awareness and keep our community safe, firefighters will conduct home safety checks for smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms throughout the Township during the week of September 22 to 28, 2025.
Firefighters will be visiting the following neighbourhoods:
- Bridgenorth – Maria Street
- Lakefield – Coyle Crescent
- Young’s Point – Clear Lake Road & Cottage Lane
- Curve Lake – Deramore Road
- Ennismore – Young Street (south side), Corkery Road, & Robert Road
Selwyn Firefighters will be on-site in official fire department apparatus and uniforms to assist homeowners with:
- Testing smoke and CO alarms
- Inspecting alarms to ensure they meet safety standards
- Replacing alarms if necessary
“Working smoke alarms save lives,” said Andrew Bowyer, Fire Prevention Officer of the Selwyn Fire Department. “We encourage all residents to take a moment on September 28 to test their alarms, and if we’re in your neighbourhood that week, we’d be happy to assist.”
The Selwyn Fire Department reminds residents that Ontario law requires every home to have working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas, as well as carbon monoxide alarms outside all sleeping areas if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage.
