Selwyn Township Launches 2025 ReLeaf Program to Restore Tree Canopy
The Township of Selwyn is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 ReLeaf Program, an initiative designed to restore and enhance the community’s tree canopy on private properties. Made possible through support from Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One) Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant, this program builds on the success of previous ReLeaf campaigns and directly addresses tree loss caused by the devastating March 2025 Ice Storm.
What’s New in 2025?
- 600 Free Native Trees: Residents can receive one of 600 native Red Oak, Swamp Oak, Sugar Maple, Silver Maple or Red Maple trees.
- Biodiversity and Resilience: Species are native to Ontario and were selected for their ability to promote biodiversity and withstand severe weather events.
How It Works
- Registration Opens: Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 9:00 AM. A link to the registration form will be available on the Township’s website: selwyntownship.ca/releaf.
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to Selwyn Township residents, with one tree allocated per property.
- Tree Selection and Pick-Up: Successful registrants will be notified and given pick-up details. Tree species will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at pick-up. Residents will receive planting and aftercare instructions to ensure their trees thrive.
“The 2025 ReLeaf Program is more than just a tree giveaway—it’s an opportunity for residents to directly contribute to the long-term environmental health and beauty of our community,” said Sherry Senis, Mayor of Selwyn Township. “We’re grateful for Hydro One’s support in making this initiative possible.”
“The ice storm caused severe and widespread impacts across the province, leaving many communities and municipalities with devastating damage,” said Bronwen Evans, Vice President, Communications and Marketing, Hydro One. “We know how important trees and green spaces are in communities and are proud to support Selwyn Township in its effort to replant the tree canopy.”
