  • Selwyn Township Issues Total Burn Ban Effective Immediately

    The Selwyn Fire Department has issued a Total Burn Ban, effective immediately and until further notice, due to increased fire risk in the region. All burn permits are now void.

    This ban applies to all open-air burning, including:

    • Yard waste and brush burning
    • Campfires and bonfires
    • Outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, and chimineas
    • Agricultural burns
    • Fireworks
  • Selwyn Township Launches 2025 ReLeaf Program to Restore Tree Canopy

    The Township of Selwyn is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 ReLeaf Program, an initiative designed to restore and enhance the community’s tree canopy on private properties. Made possible through support from Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One) Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant, this program builds on the success of previous ReLeaf campaigns and directly addresses tree loss caused by the devastating March 2025 Ice Storm.

  • Ontario Upgrading Surface of Ennismore Arena

    The Ontario government is investing $931,750 to replace the floor at the Ennismore Community Centre. This investment is part of the province’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), a provincewide initiative that helps communities revitalize local facilities, grow the economy and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.

  • Selwyn Township Implements Immediate Ban on Burning Brush

    As of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 12 Noon, the Selwyn Township Fire Department is enforcing a strict prohibition on burning brush. This decision comes amidst sustained drought conditions and above-average temperatures. Conditions are very dry, and we want to protect our residents, their properties and our volunteer firefighters.

    Selwyn Township is proud to announce that The Link rural transit service will once again be connecting communities during annual events. These events include the Lakefield Literary Festival, the Curve Lake Pow Wow and the Lakefield Jazz, Art & Craft Festival. 

  • Selwyn Township Receives RTO8 Partnership Funding to Replace Aging Visitor Information Kiosks

    The Township of Selwyn is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding through Regional Tourism Organization 8's (RTO8) Partnership Funding Program to support the revitalization of its visitor information kiosks located in Bridgenorth, Ennismore, and Lakefield.

  • Hydro One announces 50 recipients of the Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant

    On June 16, 2025, Hydro One Inc. (Hydro One) announced the 50 Indigenous communities and municipalities that will each receive up to $10,000 through the Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant. The grants will support local recovery efforts after the widespread ice storm that left severe damage across parts of Ontario this past spring. Hydro One marked the announcement with an event in Selwyn Township, a grant recipient that, through their ReLeaf Program, will donate more than 350 trees to residents who experienced vegetation loss as a result of the storm.
