Yellow Air Quality Warning

The Air Quality Warning has been downgraded to Yellow due to improving smoke conditions. However, smoke from wildfires in Northern Ontario may return later today or this evening.
During heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status.
Please take precautions to stay safe:
  • Keep yourself, your family members and pets indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors closed.
  • Limit time outdoors. Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities, and events.
  • Check on family members, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to poor air quality.
  • Always follow guidance from local authorities.
If you need a place to cool off and/or get relief from the smoke, relief locations are available at the Selwyn Public Library branches during operating hours.

Total Burn Ban in Effect

Effective immediately, the Selwyn Township Fire Department has issued a Total Burn Ban until further notice due to hazardous air quality cause by smoke from the wildfires in Northern Ontario. 

With the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) reaching 10 (Very High Risk), all burning has been prohibited to help protect public health, reduce additional smoke in the community, and minimize the risk of fire. All existing burn permits are now void.
