Ennismore Library Opportunities: Variety of days and times, permanent and casual.
Lakefield Library Opportunities: Wednesdays 10am - 12pm & Fridays 2:30pm - 5:00pm
We ask you to print out and complete an application form and submit it to the place you wish to volunteer.  Prior to final acceptance, all applicants must provide  an original Criminal Records Check. 

In 2019,The Selwyn Public Library had 170+ volunteers who contributed 18,265 hours to our community. Our 3 New-To-You Stores had 58 volunteers who contributed 5,216 hours to our community.

Your community would not be the same without the hard work and dedication of these wonderful volunteers.

We are delighted that you are interested in volunteering at our library.  We  have many different tasks in the library and would like to make the best use of your special skills & talents.  We ask you to print out and complete an application form and submit it to the place you wish to volunteer.  Prior to final acceptance, all applicants must provide  an original Criminal Records Check. 

Library Positions

Library Volunteer Application 

  • Circulation and renewal of library items  
  • Reservations of library materials for patrons
  • Process new memberships
  • Contact patrons regarding overdue materials
  • Shelve returned items
  • Shelf reading and straightening
  • Catalogue new items
  • Repair materials
  • Help others with Internet computers
  • Assist patrons in locating materials
  • Perform inter-library loan duties

Fundraising (New-to-You stores, Book Sales, etc.)  

Book Sales

Volunteers are need for our book sales. Some of the duties include: sorting, display, day-of support, and clean-up. To volunteer at a book sale, please contact the branch librarian.

The Causeway Treasure Trove 

Sells gift ware as well as good quality clothing and is located on Ward Street next door to the OPP office. Proceeds from this site are  divided equally with Community Care Chemung.

The Thrift Shop 

Located in the former Ennismore Municipal Building in the Ennismore Recreation Complex where good quality used clothing is sold.  Proceeds from this site are divided equally with Community Care Chemung.

Youth Volunteers

Youth who have completed grade 8 can accumulate volunteer hours by helping our children's summer program coordinator run the TD Summer Reading Club. The program runs from July to the end of August.
