Meet at the Lakefield Marina on Water Street at 9:00 AM to start the work. If you plan to mulch and weed trees, garden gloves, a weeding tool and a kneeling pad are recommended. Don't forget working gloves!

Come lend a hand to help spread limestone screenings and pick up garbage along the Lakefield Trail, and spread mulch around our Native Plant Garden.

Earth Day Hike - Sunday, April 23, 2023 (beginning at 1:30PM)

Lakefield Trail Stewardship Committee volunteers are pleased to announce that local biologist/educator Sheila Potter will lead a Spring Nature Hike on Sunday, April 23rd. The hike will start at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield at 1:30pm.

Sheila Potter is passionate about connecting people to nature. She says her spring talk could be called “The Race is On!”. The race to arrive, set-up house, find a mate, raise some young - it is a stressful, exhausting and brutal time of year for organisms all around us but that makes for a wonderful show! Sheila will talk about how you too can create habitat with whatever small patch of land you might have. Learn about some of the great migrations and special birds to listen for at this time of year and list them on the app eBird. Sheila will get participants to listen for frog calls near the marsh and she’ll talk about how turtles are starting to move this time of year and will soon be on the roads. Learn about iNaturalist - an app for identifying organisms of all kinds and Merlin an app for bird calls.
