 By-Law Enforcement Officer

The Township is seeking a By-Law Enforcement Officer who will provide education, investigation, compliance and enforcement of municipal by-laws and related legislation.  This position also provides advice to the general public, Council and staff regarding the interpretation of the Township regulatory by-laws. 

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed a 2 year College Diploma program in law enforcement or a related field. Two years related experience in a similar industry setting is required. Candidates must be eligible for membership in the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association and the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers and designation as a Certified Property Standards Officer is required.

This person will be expected to work independently, using initiative, integrity and good judgement in carrying out the duties of the position. The person must be accountable, adaptable and possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.  This person requires superior customer service skills and must act professionally in providing service to the public. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and proficient in the interpretation and application of various Municipal, Provincial and Federal statutes and bylaws such as the OBC Act and Regulations, the Fire Code, the interpretation of Planning Documents, and Property Standards By-law. 

The present salary range for this position is $30.16 - $36.19 per hour based on a 35 hour work week.

 Lakefield Marina Dock Attendant (Seasonal)

The Township of Selwyn is seeking applications for the seasonal position of Lakefield Marina Dock Attendant, to assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the Lakefield Marina.

The ideal candidate will have at a minimum one year’s experience in a primarily customer service role. Candidates must have the proven ability to handle cash, debit and credit card payments. A valid class “G” drivers’ license and good swimming skills are required. Candidates with lifesaving training and/or certification and current CPR and/or First Aid certification will be preferred. Candidates may be required to obtain a Food Safety Training Certificate if they haven’t already successfully completed a course.

Applicants with knowledge of the Trent-Severn Waterway and the boating / marina industry will be preferred. The individual will be expected to work as a member of a small team, while using initiative and good judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. The person must demonstrate initiative and possess excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

The person requires superior interpersonal skills and customer focus and must act professionally in providing service to the public and as a representative of the municipality. 

The rate of pay for this position is $16.13/hour. This position will require candidates to be available for weekend and evening work.

Development Approvals Technician

The Township is seeking a Development Approvals Technician. In this new position, this successful candidate will provide advice and interpretation as it relates to the Zoning By-law and Official Plan, as well as review and process Development Applications and Zoning Certificates. This role also provides administrative and technical support for the Planning services area, while fostering excellence in customer service to the Township residents.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in a planning related discipline and will also hold a full or provisional membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. A minimum of one year relevant planning experience in a municipal setting will be preferred.

The individual will require thorough knowledge of planning principles, concepts, practices and methods as well as a strong understanding of the Planning Act, the Municipal Act, Provincial Policy Statements and other legislation pertaining to municipal planning. The person must be flexible, adaptable and possess excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills. A demonstrated ability to manage several different requests and tasks simultaneously, while adhering to strict deadlines is required.

Permit Intake Technician

The Township is seeking a Permit Intake Technician. In this new position, this successful candidate will provide customer service while managing all aspects of the building permit intake and issuance process. This position is also expected to provide preliminary application review for completeness, adherence to all applicable law, including the Ontario Building Code and the Planning Act. The position will provide administrative assistance to the Building Services area.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Technology, or a related field. A minimum of three years related experience in a business or municipal setting will be preferred.

Candidates should be a current member or be  willing and ability to become a member of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA), as well as be qualified and registered with MMAH in the following categories: General Legal, Small Buildings, HVAC House, Plumbing House. This person will have a good understanding of the principles of urban planning, the Township’s Zoning By-laws, Building Code and other relevant legislation. A good working knowledge of personal computers, data base, GIS, AutoCAD and web based mapping software, and word processing programs is required.

Planner

The Township is seeking applications for Planner who will provide professional review, interpretation, input and reporting related to a broad range of planning and development issues. As the key liaison for planning matters, this position will provide guidance and assistance to individuals going through the development approval process and ensures streamlined practices while fostering excellence in customer service.

The ideal candidate will have a post secondary education in a planning related discipline and full or provisional membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. Three to five years of relevant planning experience is required. Candidates with planning experience in a municipal setting will be preferred.

Thorough knowledge of planning principles, concepts, practices and methods is required to fulfil the requirements of the position as well as thorough knowledge of the Planning Act, the Municipal Act, Provincial Policy Statements and other Federal and Provincial legislation pertaining to municipal planning. This person will have excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to foster a cooperative work environment with multiple, cross-functional stakeholders. Excellent word processing, spreadsheet and database computer skills are required as well as planning/ database/mapping applications. 

The present salary range for this position is $32.81 - $39.37 per hour based on a 40 hour work week.
