PolarFest is an exciting family festival, offering something for everyone to enjoy! A weekend full of laughter, friendly competition and the enjoyment of winter.

Choose from activities for the young and the young at heart, including:

Snowman Challenge (All Weekend Long)

If you think you can build the best snowman in Selwyn Township, then the Snowman Challenge is for you! A prize will be awarded to the best, most creative snowman!

Make sure your snowman is ready for PolarFest weekend and take a picture of your awesome snowman and upload to Facebook. Be sure add #snowmanchallenge and #polarfest to your post.

Youth Shinny (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

Location: Ennismore Community Centre, 

Cost: $5.00 per person

Note: full equipment is mandatory


  • 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM for ages 8 and under (Novice & Tyke)
  • 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM for ages 9 to 11 (Atom & Peewee) 
  • 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM for ages 12 and over (Bantam & Midget)
Opening Ceremony (6:30 PM)

Location: TBC

Help kick off the 14th anniversary of PolarFest. Join us at the Opening Ceremonies where Eastlink, our Presenting Corporate Sponsor, has kindly sponsored a fireworks show, put on by North Star Fireworks!

Lakefield Trail Night Hike (7:00 PM)

Location: Marshland Centre at 64 Hague Boulevard, Lakefield

Join us for a Nature in Winter Guided Night Hike on Friday Jan 31st at 7pm. Hikers will set out from the Marshland Centre at the Lakefield Beach with 4 naturalists and biologists who will divide the group. There will be both adult and kid-friendly options with games and fun for the little ones. The hike returns to the beach where you will be welcomed by a toasty campfire to roast marshmallows and warm your insides with a cup of hot apple cider. Be sure to dress warmly - no flashlight required! Hike is about 30 minutes.


Free Pancake Breakfast (9:30 AM)

Location: Causeway Christian Assembly at 1307 Yankee Line, Ennismore

Come out and enjoy a free pancake breakfast at the Causeway Christian Assembly, located at the top of the hill above the Causeway. The event is free, but donations are welcome.


Ice Sculpture Competition & People's Choice Awards (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM)

Location: Cenotaph Park, Lakefield

Lakefield is celebrating its 16th Anniversary of spectacular ice sculptures, sponsored by the Lakefield Village Merchants.

Cenotaph Park will sparkle with exquisite ice sculptures created by talented chefs. This years theme is MOVIE NIGHT! Cast your ballot for the People's Choice Award and hang on to your ballot stub, it's a valuable discount coupon!

Bring the children out and enjoy crafting statues out of ice provided for you in the ice garden. 

Ice People Ice Sculptures (11:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

Location: Heritage Park, Bridgenorth

The Ice People of the Bridgenorth, Ennismore and Lakefield area remove ice from Chemong Lake to carve beautiful ice sculptures that are placed in Heritage Park.

Who Are The Ice People?

The Ice People is a not for profit community organization whose members work as volunteers. Their goal is to better the community festivals and enhance the beauty of the Township of Selwyn. Although the group raises funds to grow and improve their events, all the extra funds are returned to local charities.

Interested in being a carver? 

We have a block of ice for you! We assign a block of ice per carver in advance, so sign up for yours today by emailing nicolevanstone@gmail.com

Amateur and Professional Carvers Welcome! All carvers must bring their own tools and safety gear and sign a Waiver Form

Little Chippers (11:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

Location: Heritage Park, Bridgenorth

Bring the kids out and let them get creative with ice. Children are invited to create their own ice sculptures. Ice People will be on hand to offer instructions.

Public Skating (12:00 PM to 1:00 PM)

Location: Lakefield-Smith Community Centre at

Nordic Day (12:00 PM to 3:00 PM)

Location: Ontario Speed Skating Oval

Adventure Outfitters of Lakefield will be providing those interested the opportunity to experience a variety of Nordic Winter Sports.

Stop by Adventure Outfitters located at 1828 8th Line, Lakefield and staff will fit you in the proper equipment. Head back to the speed skating oval and enjoy the trail that has been groomed for X-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing adjacent to the Oval site. Try your hand at speed skating while you are there!

Library LEGO Play Drop-In (12:00 PM to 2:00 PM)

Location: Lakefield Library Centennial Room, 8 Queen St.

Visiting the ice sculptures in the park? Warm up with us and build with LEGO to your heart's content. Children attend with a caregiver. For more information, visit the Selwyn Public Library website.

Polar Paddle (1:00 PM)

Location: Queen Street, Lakefield

Who would be crazy enough to paddle a canoe down the middle of a downtown street? We are! And we do it every year!

Register a team or come out and watch as teams of six push or pull canoes down Queen Street in Lakefield. 

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides (1:00 PM to 4:00 PM)

Location: Ennismore Community Centre

Sponsored by the Ennismore Optimist Club. Free Hot Chocolate.

Spaghetti Dinner (5:00 PM to 8:00 PM)

Location: Bridgenorth United Church at 832 Charles Street, Bridgenorth

Join Bridgenorth United Church at the Polarfest Spaghetti Dinner for musical entertainment with guest musicians and singers! Dinner to be served from 5 PM through to 7 PM, the whole event being from 5 PM to 8 PM. Adults, $10, children 7 and under, $5. 

Candlelight Skate (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM)

Location: Ontario Speed Skating Oval

Skating is Free and rental speed skates will be available. Join us for the 12th Annual Candle Light Skate. Please bring a flashlight to guide your way down from the parking lot. The light from hundreds of candles will guide your way around the 400 metre Oval!

Antique & Vintage Snowmobile Show (10:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

Location: Rotary Park, Ennismore

The Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Club of Canada will be at PolarFest again, this will be their 13th year! There will be a display of snowmobiles from days gone by at Rotary Park in Ennismore. All vintage snowmobile enthusiasts are welcome to come out and display their snowmobiles. All snowmobiles Welcome! Display sponsored in part by R.J. Brown Insurance Brokers.

Join BEL Rotary for the 40th Annual Polar Plunge on Sunday February 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM. "Freezin for a Reason" Come out and support this great event!

This year's theme is "We The North". Come early and enjoy a RE/MAX tethered hot air balloon ride, test your luck at lake curling or check out the Antique Snowmobile Show.
