Water & Climate Change Programs Assistant

The Township is seeking a Water & Climate Change Programs Assistant, who will help implement water conservation and stewardship initiatives, a sustainable waste management policy, and conduct research on water and climate change subject matter.  Each of these efforts will help advance the Township’s water and waste-related climate change goals.

The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution or a recent graduate of either. You will be an environmentally-minded individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills excited to expand on your general knowledge of water-related impacts of climate change on water bodies, buildings and infrastructure, low-impact stormwater management and water conservation principles, as well as issues in waste management and sustainable waste management principles. Candidates with experience implementing and promoting green initiatives will be preferred. 

The individual will be expected to promote climate-friendly programs throughout the municipality such as the Selwyn Rain Ready Action Program, Starry Stonewort Monitoring and Education, Shoreline Stewardship, and the Clear Bag Program for Garbage.  This internship is research and policy-driven with hands-on, people-oriented components. The person must be flexible, adaptable and possess excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills. A proven ability to manage several projects simultaneously is a must.

The person requires strong interpersonal and leadership skills and must act professionally in providing service to the public and as a representative of the municipality. 

The present compensation for this position is $14.97/hour, based on a 35 hour work week.
