On Tuesday, August 8, 2023 the Council of Selwyn Township passed municipal-wide and area-specific development charges By-law No. 2023-053 through By-law No. 2023-060, pursuant to section 2 (1) of the Developmental Charges Act, 1997, S.O., 1997 c. 27, as amended.
Any person or organization may appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal under section 14 of the Act, in respect of the
development charges by-law, by filing with the Clerk of the Township of Selwyn on or before the 18th day of September, 2023 at 12 Noon a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the by-law and the reasons supporting the objection.
The schedule of development charges imposed by the by-law, will come into effect on September 12, 2023 (see summary charts below).
The purpose of development charges (D.C.s) is to recover the capital costs associated with residential and non-residential growth within the municipality. The concept of D.C.'s is that "growth pays for growth". Municipalities impose these charges via the Development Charges Act.
